Fur: It’s important that you start practice to brush your new
little puppy, soon after he/she has been used to you and the new family
members. You have to train the puppy to lie on the back in your knee.
This will make it easier for you to brush the fur especially in the
armpit and groin. Try to brush the fur once a day and it is usually
easier in the evening when the puppy is tired.
After the puppy is accustomed to be brushed, every two or three days is
enough. If you brush the puppy less often, mats could occur rather
quickly especially in the armpits and groins and under the ears.
Begin to brush the paws and work your way up along the legs. Continue
under the stomach and up to the back. Place the puppy on the back and
brush the armpits and groins. Finally, do the head, ears and back. When
you are done with the brush, unravel any remaining mats carefully and
use the comb and never cut them since it takes a long time for the fur
to grown out again. Always use a steel comb. Give the puppy a bath once
a month and be sure always to use a mild shampoo, for example “Fluffy
Puppy – shampoo”. When the Puppy is 6 month old, you have to use a
conditioner too. Dry the puppy with a hair dryer. When the puppy is 7 months old, it will loose the
puppy-fur, and at this time it’s usually difficult to keep the fur in a
nice condition and mats will occur frequently if you don’t brush and
comb it every day. The fur will be like this until the puppy is about
14-months of age after which the fur will be easier to maintain in a
good condition.
Ears: You have to remove fur from the inside of the
ears by pulling it away.
Teeth: It’s recommended to brush the teeth twice a
week. Use a regular baby toothbrush and a toothpaste for dogs. I recommend dog treats,
no cookies and sweets; it´s not good for the teeth.
It is also very important to give the puppy rawhide treats, which are
good for the teeth. It’s also important that the puppy has a couple of
toys to play with.
Claw: Cut the claws every second week. You have to look
carefully on each claw so you don’t cut the quick. If that happens,
don’t comfort the puppy! The puppy will learn that cutting claws is
something unpleasant, which could give you a hard time when you try to
cut them in the future.
Trimming: You only have to trim the fur using a
scissors are around the anus and for the paws. The paws have to be
trimmed also between the foot pads. You can also use a Groomer for a "puppy
cut", it’s convenient.
Good shopping for your little puppy.

I give my Cotons
Nature's Variety
Begin with two table spoons of dry food, tree times a day and increase the
amount as the puppy grows. Free feeding during puppy hood is not
recommended. Allow about 15 minutes for your puppy for eating the food
and then remove remaining food until the next meal. After a couple of
feedings the puppy will realize that it needs to eat while the food is
there.
If the puppy is very eager when the food
is served and eats very quickly, it is probably time to increase the
amount, of the food.
When your puppy is about 3½ - 4
months old he/she just needs 2 meals a day. You can give him/her a dog
biscuit in the middle of the day.
The
adult dog should eat twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.
